Liquid or Dye Penetrant NDT testing (PT) is a cost-effective non-destructive examination method for detecting surface defects such as cracks, porosity, laps, seams, and other surface discontinuities. Both ferrous and non-ferrous materials, as well as all non-porous materials, can be tested with dye penetrant inspection.
It’s widely used to test castings, forgings, and weldments for flaws. Industrial Welding Inspection works with a wide range of industries, including aerospace, power generation, petrochemicals, and oil and gas, and we can conduct dye penetrant inspections on-site or in our certified laboratories. Dye penetrant inspection in the laboratory is particularly useful for inspecting batch quantities of machined parts, and components up to one ton in weight and six feet in diameter can be accommodated at our laboratory.
The technique is also useful for on-site research because it is compact, and some techniques like visible color contrast do not require additional resources like power or water. As a result, it’s perfect for inspecting surface discontinuities.
Before applying the penetrant by dipping, spraying, or brushing, the examined object must first be washed. The penetrant is given time to soak through any flaws, with the penetration time varying depending on the penetrant used and the customer’s needs.
After that, depending on the procedure, the excess penetrant is removed and the part is dried. After that, a developer is used. The developer aids in the extraction of penetrant from the defect and onto the surface, resulting in a clear indication. Depending on the type of penetrant used, the inspector performs a visual inspection under ultraviolet or white light (fluorescent or visible colour contrast).
Dye Penetrant Testing or Liquid Penetrant Testing for industrial Nondestructive Testing applications.
Penetrants are rated according to their susceptibility levels, and considerations such as the setting in which the test will be conducted, the surface finish, the size of the defects sought, and the size of the test piece are all taken into account when choosing a penetrant.
For dye penetrant inspection, we use the following Complete Quality Assurance techniques:
Visible removable solvent
Water soluable
Post emulsification
Industrial Welding Inspection’s highly trained staff hold a minimum of Level II in ASNT, and have extensive dye penetrant inspection experience.
We will provide you with a quick response, round-the-clock testing, and a regional collection and distribution service if you choose Industrial Welding Inspection for dye penetrant inspection. In today’s highly regulated markets, we can provide the inspection service that ensures your goods or equipment are fit for its purpose and meet national and international code requirements.
